The Women in Mining conference, held months ago, brought together some of the most influential voices in the mining industry. Organized by Pinpoint Stewards, the event aimed to highlight the contributions and challenges faced by women in this traditionally male-dominated field. The conference featured a diverse group of speakers who shared their personal journeys, insights, and expertise, leaving a profound impact on all attendees.
Speakers such as Nomvula Ngcobo, Nozipho Dlamini, and Nandi Sibanyoni shared powerful narratives that underscored resilience, adaptability, and the importance of mentorship. They collectively emphasized that, while it is possible to pursue multiple aspirations, the key to success lies in embracing “progress over perfection.” The prevailing message from these leaders was clear: be mindful not to be your own limiting factor, and always remember that “there is ample sun for all of us to shine.” Their stories revealed that, behind every achievement, there is a history of perseverance and overcoming adversity.
The conference also served as a reminder that the journey to success often requires collaboration, not competition. Lerato Lumadi, Thandi Mphela, Juliet Ntepane, and Rethabile Molebatsi echoed the sentiment that women must continue to support one another, building each other up as they advance in their careers and contribute to the growth of the industry.
Imbeleko Foundation: Raising Awareness for Educational Access
On a separate occasion, Sanctuary Mandela hosted an inaugural luncheon to support the Imbeleko Foundation’s initiative, “A Better Chance, A Better Future.” The foundation, established by Sbu Myeni and her late sister Dr. Seni Myeni, is dedicated to providing talented learners from rural communities access to transformational educational opportunities. This initiative aims to empower young minds through education, with the luncheon fostering new partnerships and raising awareness for their cause.

Key supporters, such as Zola Malinga of the Jade Foundation, partnered with the Thinabantu Foundation to back the first cohort of learners placed at the prestigious Inanda Seminary School in Durban. With a rich history of 155 years of educating young Black women leaders, Inanda Seminary serves as a beacon of excellence in education, nurturing future generations of female leaders.
The luncheon, filled with compassion and purpose, was a reflection of the powerful impact that women can make when united by a common goal. As South Africa commemorates 30 years of democracy, the importance of investing in the education of young girls, particularly those from rural and township communities, cannot be overstated. The Imbeleko Foundation initiative is a step toward ensuring that these young girls are given A Better Chance and A Better Future, and with the support of the wider community, this vision can become a reality.

Both the Women in Mining conference and the Imbeleko Foundation luncheon serve as powerful examples of how women across different sectors are driving change and creating opportunities for future generations. Through collaboration, mentorship, and a shared vision for progress, these initiatives highlight the significant role women play in shaping a more equitable and inclusive future for all.
