Adopt-a-School Foundation Transforms Preschool with K Naomi

Public figure and media personality K Naomi joined a team of volunteers on Mandela Day 2025 to repaint and revitalise the playground at Tahir Play Area, a local preschool supported by the Adopt-a-School Foundation. The event formed part of a wider campaign to improve early learning spaces in under-resourced communities.

In partnership with the Shoprite Foundation, the initiative provided more than just a fresh coat of paint. It delivered much-needed infrastructure repair, educational resources, and a sense of dignity to the children and educators who use the space daily.

“This was a meaningful time out,” said K Naomi in a post, thanking the Adopt-a-School Foundation and acknowledging the importance of creating joyful, safe environments for children to grow and learn.

The playground, once faded and deteriorating, now stands repainted in vivid colours, with repaired play equipment and newly illustrated murals. The restoration effort aimed to reinforce the importance of nurturing early childhood spaces as vital hubs of development, belonging, and creativity.

Volunteers donated their time and skills to repaint walls, renew seating areas, and replant garden beds. The presence of public figures like K Naomi helped draw attention to the role everyday citizens and high-profile individuals alike can play in supporting education.

The initiative reflects the core spirit of Mandela Day — using 67 minutes of service to honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy through tangible acts of social improvement. Organisers say more such efforts are planned for the months ahead, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas where infrastructure remains uneven.

As schools prepare for the new academic term, the newly revived Tahir Play Area now stands as a colourful symbol of community collaboration, youth-focused development, and the enduring power of collective care.
