Cape Town, South Africa – Women in the PR industry don’t need to “find” their voice—they already have one. They simply need the power and the platform to use it. That was the resounding message from last week’s Empowering Women in Global PR panel at the annual PRCA Africa Conference, where industry heavyweights gathered to discuss the future of female leadership in communications.
The conference, held on January 29th and 30th, 2025, at the Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront in Cape Town, was designed to empower PR professionals with the insights and tools needed to thrive in the ever-evolving public relations landscape.
Emma Kendrick Cox, Resident Executive Creative Director at Irvine Partners Creative Communications, took to LinkedIn to reflect on the panel, which was expertly moderated by Mary Njoki. Joining Cox on stage were Kalay Maistry and Emma King, two trailblazers in the field, as they tackled some of the biggest challenges and opportunities facing women in PR today.

The discussion touched on crucial topics, including:
Supporting women at every phase of life – From career beginnings to motherhood and beyond.
Women in leadership roles – Breaking barriers and making boardrooms more inclusive.
Work-life balance and the invisible load – Juggling career, family, and societal expectations.
Creating spaces for women to thrive – Fostering professional growth and mentorship.
“Grateful for the space. Grateful for the conversation. And most of all, grateful for the incredible women paving the way,” Cox wrote in her recap of the event.
With thought-provoking insights and a palpable energy in the room, the panel served as both a celebration of progress and a call to action for further change. One thing was clear: Women in PR are not waiting for permission to lead—they already are.
