GovTech 2025 Ignites Digital Transformation at Durban ICC

The Durban International Convention Centre is abuzz this week as GovTech 2025 unfolds, bringing together government leaders, tech innovators, and digital transformation experts to chart South Africa’s path toward a smarter, more inclusive digital future.

In his keynote address, Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, emphasized that “for the economy to succeed, connectivity should not be a luxury.” He highlighted the urgent need to accelerate digital transformation to enhance service delivery and foster economic growth.

A standout moment came when Gopal Reddy, Acting Managing Director of the State Information Technology Agency (SITA), introduced the Citizen Super App. This integrated digital platform consolidates multiple government services into a single, user-friendly interface, streamlining access for citizens and supporting the government’s broader digital transformation agenda.

On Day 2, Professor Luzango Mfupe, Chief Researcher at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), shared insights on cutting-edge technologies that enable a capable, digitally empowered state. His work in dynamic spectrum access and wireless communications is pivotal in shaping South Africa’s digital infrastructure.

GovTech 2025 is more than a conference; it is a showcase of South Africa’s ambitions to harness technology for smarter governance, faster service delivery, and a more connected citizenry. With discussions on innovation, cybersecurity, and digital inclusion, the event underscores the government’s commitment to building a digital future that benefits all citizens.
