Over three days this week, the inaugural MTN Group Fintech Summit 2025 convened industry leaders, innovators, regulators, and business strategists from across the continent to shape the future of digital finance in Africa. Serving as co-Master of Ceremonies, Vuyolwethu Dubese, guided the conversations with a blend of insight, wit, and mindfulness, emphasizing both the scale of the opportunity and the responsibility borne by fintech stakeholders.
The summit opened with a powerful demonstration of MTN’s reach and impact, as Serigne Dioum, CEO of MTN Group Fintech, presented the company’s Fintech 2030 strategy. Dioum outlined a vision for interoperable, inclusive, and trusted digital financial systems that connect businesses and customers while advancing economic growth across Africa.
The first day’s sessions highlighted the centrality of trust and shared value in fintech’s evolution. Key regulators across the continent engaged in panel discussions exploring how collaboration can unlock Africa’s digital economy. A fireside conversation between Dioum and His Excellency Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat, further underscored fintech’s role in facilitating a single African market and the urgency for aligned regulatory and business frameworks.
Day two featured globally recognized strategist Chris Skinner, who offered insights on future-proofing finance in Africa, blending international perspective with continental context. This was followed by visionary presentations from leaders driving digital transformation across the continent, framing fintech not only as a tool for financial inclusion but as a platform for empowerment, innovation, and sustainable growth.

Dubese, reflecting on the summit’s energy, highlighted the curated attention to detail—even in fashion. Each outfit she wore represented a designer from a country where MTN MoMo operates, embodying the summit’s pan-African spirit. Beyond style, the summit’s ethos was clear: digital finance in Africa is not just about technology; it is about people, culture, and the shared vision to build a financially inclusive continent.
As the MTN Group Fintech Summit concluded, attendees departed with more than strategies and projections—they left inspired to act, innovate, and collaborate. The conversations seeded here will continue shaping Africa’s fintech ecosystem, underscoring the continent’s readiness to take off on the global digital financial stage.
